Description:
Lincolnshire. Coloured map with latitude and longitude marked around the edge. The map is very rich in detail including cities, place names, rivers and mountains. Castles, mountains and significant buildings are illustrated by drawings. Boundaries are denoted by coloured lines. Top right is a large ornate cartouche containing the title and the words: 'By Eman Bowen, Geogr. to his Majesty'. This is decorated with a ram and a fishing net. Top left is a tide table for 'Fossdike and Crosskeys Washes' which shows the phases of the moon. Around the map are paragraphs giving statistical and historical data about the area. In the bottom right corner another ornate cartouche contains the dedication: 'To the Most Noble Peregrine Bertie, Duke of Ancaster, Lord Great Chamberlain of England, Custos Rotulorum & Lord Lieutenant for the County of Lincoln. This map is humbly dedicated by His Grace's most obed.t servt. Eman Bowen'. Printed along the bottom is: 'London. Printed for Laurie & Whittle 53 Fleet Street, R Wilkinson 58 Cornhill and Bowles & Carver 69 St Pauls Church Yard.'
