Description:
Leicester and Rutland. Coloured map with latitude and longitude marked around the edge. The map is very rich in detail including cities, place names, rivers and mountains. Castles, mountains and significant buildings are illustrated by drawings. Boundaries are denoted by coloured lines. Bottom left is a large ornate cartouche containing the title and the words: 'By Eman Bowen, Geogr. to his Majesty'. Bottom right another ornate cartouche contains the dedication: 'To the most Noble John Duke of Rutland, Lord Lieutenant & Custos Rotulorum for the county of Leicester, and to the Rt Honourable Brownlow Cecil Earl of Exeter, Lord Lieutenant & Custos Rotulorum for the county of Rutland. This map is dedicated by their obed.t and humble Servt. Eman Bowen'. Around the map are paragraphs giving statistical and historical data about the area and the various seats of nobility. Printed along the bottom is: 'London. Printed for Laurie & Whittle 53 Fleet Street, R Wilkinson 58 Cornhill and Bowles & Carver 69 St Pauls Church Yard.'
