Description:
Lancashire. Monochrome with ornate border, the map is very rich in detail including cities, place names, rivers and mountains. Castles, mountains and significant buildings and features are illustrated by drawings. There are images of ships and sea creatures. The map is richly illustrated with portraits of the House of Lancaster on the left: Henry IV, V, VI and VII, and the House of York on the right: Elizabeth of York, Richard III, Edward IV and V. A framed paragraph explains how the two houses were joined uniting the red and white roses. There is a large coat of arms top left and at the bottom the arms of Edmond Croukbak and John of Gaunt. On the right is a map of Lancaster with a key to significant places. The map features a large compass rose and a scale bar. The inscription at the bottom reads: 'Performed by John Speed. And are to be sold by Thomas Bassett in Fleet Street and Ric. Chiswell in St Pauls Churchyard.
