Description:
Photograph of the gravestone of the first two wives of John Rylands Dinah and Martha. The grave was destroyed in 1955 when Rusholme Road Cemetery in Manchester was converted into an open space. The grave contained not only the mortal remains of the first wives of John Rylands but also those of the infant Emily and of his son and heir William Rylands. The text is taken from 1 Thess. 4:14: 'them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him'.
