Description:
Autograph letter to Joly about the cast of Hugo's Ruy Blas. He says that Saint-Firmin does not fit as he is not young enough and his voice lacks strength. For the role of the Queen, he would like to choose his mistress Juliette Drouet, but he conceals her name and asks Joly to remain quiet about this matter.
This letter is very interesting as it sheds light on how Hugo chose his actors. He finally had to cancel his plans for his mistress after his wife had asked Joly not to give the role to Juliette Drouet.
Bought from the Librairie de l'Abbaye on 23 November 1962 for 315 francs. This letter was previously in the collection of Robert Schuman (1886-1963).
