Description:
Laboratory cloud chamber setup and instruments. In the 1850s, Jevons built an apparatus at the Sydney Royal Mint to undertake experiments in cloud formation by producing manifestations of the 'average' cirrus cloud in his apparatus. Photography served to record these experiments. In 1858, he published the first thorough and scientific study of the climate of Australia, entitled 'On Clouds: their various forms and producing causes'. Sydney Magazine of Science and Art, 1, pp. 163-76.
