Description:
View of Double Bay beach, eastern suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. The two houses on the beach belonged to F.B. Miller (on the left as viewing), and Mr Daniel Cooper (on the right). Jevons lodged with Miller who also worked at the mint. Handwritten caption(s) in ink or pencil on the album page: 'Beach and flat of Double Bay taken from below Mr Lasseter's house' | '13/2/58'.

Notes:
• Monochrome photographic print, mounted on paper with one other print: /70. Bound in an album with a total of 172 photographs of places in Sydney, and of friends and colleagues at the Sydney Royal Mint, taken or compiled by William Stanley Jevons during the 1850s. Between 1854-1859 Jevons was employed as Assayer at the Sydney Royal Mint and also carried out detailed social surveys of the city's slums.
