Description:
Thomas Macklin's Bible was published serially between 1791 and 1800. The full-page plates and headpiece and tailpiece vignettes were published by Macklin, and the text was printed for Macklin by Thomas Bensley. This volume contains the books of Matthew to John (i.e. the Gospels). The volume includes 30 full-page plates by various artists and engravers, published between 01 March 1791 and 17 April 1800; and 8 headpiece (4) and tailpiece (4) vignettes designed by Philippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg, by various engravers; not all are dated - the earliest date is 07 June 1800 (headpiece to Luke) and the latest 14 July 1800 (tailpiece to John) and it is likely that all were published in June and July 1800.
