Temperance movement cuttings book: cuttings collected from various Temperance movement publications. Illustrations depict the physical and moral consequences of drinking alcohol. Several of the cuttings are reproductions of William Hogarth's engravings depicting the effects of alcohol. The top left cutting is: 'A Midnight Modern Conversation'; bottom left: 'Beer Street' and bottom right: 'Gin Lane'. In the centre of the page is a hand coloured cutting, with scenes of the effects of drinking. In the central medallion Death appears, wearing a gold crown, timer and bearing arrows, at a dinner party.
