F. 1a is the signature of Turner Macan, first European editor of the Shahnama, and a note below: 'This is beautiful manuscript of Firdousi's immortal poem was the finest in the library of the King of Oude, It was written in the year 949 of the Hegira (AD 1542) and is therefore 290 years old. It was one of the copies used by Captain Macan in collating this work.' 4 columns of 23 lines to the page. Written surface 202 mm x 108 mm. There are 38 miniatures of Shiraz type and they are attributed to two artists.
