Description:
c. 1909 edition of Yggdrasill [no specific date]. There is no illustrated cover just the title on lined notepaper. The Editorial is on folio two. The notes open with the news that Miss Parkin (Vice-Warden) is to be leaving the Hall and continue to lament that even though the Hall now numbers two residences; no greater number of contributors to the magazine have developed. The Editorial bemoans the quality of the more recent editions in comparison with the earliest, which were full of poetry, essays and creativity. Next on folio three is a piece on 'The Fresher's Social' and following on folio five a poem entitled 'The Quarry'. Directly underneath the poem is a small photograph of two students. Opposite on folio six is the conclusion of Margaret Phillips account of 'Travels in Japan' detailing amongst other places, Kobe and Tokyo. On folio ten is an article on the suffrage movement; 'A Modern Reading Party'. This is followed on folio thirteen by the 'Correspondence column'; on the verso is a photograph of a Hockey team. The next item is a contribution by 'J.N.' on classical styles of dance, especially Greek dance. This is followed on folio fifteen by an account of a visit to the 'National Social and Political Exhibition at the Princess Skating Rink London' which details the 'enthusiasm' and 'great energy & determination' for the women's suffrage movement that leaves the once ambivalent contributor very keen on the cause.
