Description:
Lent 1907 edition of Yggdrasill; created by the students of Ashburne House. The illustrated cover has the title 'Yggdrasill' and Ashburne House Magazine, Lent Term 1907. The cover has been illustrated with stylised flowers coloured with vibrant red ink or watercolour paint. The magazine opens with a report from the Old Ashburnians Association by Elizabeth Parker followed on folio two with 'Our Correspondence Column'. The next item on folio three is by 'S.P.Q.R' entitled 'Studies in Ashburnian Psychology'. The Editorial appears on the verso of folio four. The appeal of the last editorial to the new students for contributions appears to have 'passed unheeded', but the Editor thanks the 'three or four' contributors to the present number. The ill-health but also recovery of former Ashburnian Miss Stephens is noted, along with the launch of the new 'Correspondence Column'. On folio five is an account of 'Christmas in a Workhouse Infirmary' by C.L. Corbett. This is followed by a poem on folio seven 'Sad Experience of a Late Riser' (with apologies to Longfellow). On the verso of folio seven is a sad announcement of the death of Miss Maud Lees, former Ashburnian and student of the College of Music. Miss Lees was drowned in a canoe accident on March 16th. The standing item 'Athletic notes' follows on folio eight, reported by S.E. Jackson. Next is the 'Chronicle' recounted by the warden H.D. Oakeley followed on folio eleven by an account of a trip to 'The Roman Camp at Mancunium'. The final article 'The Bowels of the Earth' is a description of an excursion to the Collins Green Colliery, submitted by K.H. Coward.
