Description:
Christmas 1906 edition of Yggdrasill; created by the students of Ashburne House. The illustrated cover has the title 'Yggdrasill' and Ashburne House Magazine, Christmas Term 1906. The black cover has been illustrated with stylised flowers, rendered in white ink or paint. The Editorial appears on the verso of folio one which opens with a hearty welcome to the freshers, followed by a 'sad appeal' for more contributions to the magazine, the lack of which, the editors liken to having to 'make bricks without straw'. The standard 'Chronicle' appears on folio two, a report by the warden H.D. Oakeley. This is followed on the verso of folio four by an appeal by the current librarians, Miss Brodie and Miss Smith for missing library books to be returned to the House Library. Opposite on folio five is a letter from the 'Old Ashburnians Association' which celebrated its fourth anniversary on the 23rd of June. The article closes with a list of members. Directly after this on folio six is a copy of a letter from Dr Margaret Phillips to Katherine Clarke reporting on her post in China. Next on folio seven is a piece titled 'A Vacation Day Passing thoughts' which has been penned by E. Parker. The 'Athletic Notes' by S.E. Jackson appear on folio eight. Following this is a poem 'Oxford in August' by H.D. Oakeley. On the verso of folio nine is an essay 'On Independence' by M.B. Evans after which is the poem 'To Sleep' which it is noted is translated from the Latin. Finally on folio twelve is the list of present students.
