Titlepage of 'Contrasts' illustrated in monochrome with ornate arches, statues, and columns. Pugin held pre-Reformation bishops and their architectural works in high esteem - William of Wykeham (Bishop of Winchester) features in the drawing as does builder Alex de Berneval (on the left) and patron Erwin of Steinbach (on the right). All are studying architectural drawings.
