Description:
Coat of arms on leaf: or an ox (?) passant gules within a bordure charged with eleven dots vert (?) impaling a barry of six or and sable; above the arms a white mitre with gold bands (of a cardinal?). Probably the arms of the Borgia family of Rome and Naples; possibly the arms of Cesare Borgia (1476?-1507), who was created a cardinal in 1492 by his father Pope Alexander VI. Decoration: contemporary Italian (Naples?) illumination. Illuminated initial 'N' in blue, green, and magenta, the space inside the letter with a miniature of a Psalmist (?) holding a musical instrument (?), on a gold ground; with a full-page, heavy border of flowers and leaves in blue, green, magenta, and gold curling around a frame of blue and gold, with black pen-work and gold dots, three large putti, a coat of arms (Borgian family) in the lower margin, and four birds in the outer margin.
