Description:
Decoration: on leaf above the printed text a modern[?] (eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century) large painted portrait of the author Roberto Valturio with a red hat and a brown coat, holding in his left hand a pair of compasses onto a scroll containing a drawing of one of his military engines, the whole in a border quartered in blue and green with black and yellow lines (with a few worm holes which do not appear in either the preceding or following leaves); a contemporary illuminated 8-line initial 'C' with white vine-stem and grotesque decoration defined in blue, green and red, extending into the inner margin and ending in finials with gold dots; at foot of leaf a modern (eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century) looping green and gold laurel wreath with a lilac shield containing an illuminated coat of arms (Cassano Serra of Naples) of two oval shields (arms gold with two bars chequy or nebuly in red and gold) in a decorative maroon frame with a crown (five strawberry leaves).
