Description:
Decoration: illuminated four-sided border by a Venetian artist in the style of the Pico Master of flowers and leaves in blue, gold, green, and maroon in an intricate design of heavily filigreed curling black pen-work and gold dots, the gilt with punch-dotting; in the lower margin two angel supporters (on the left dressed in maroon with green wings, on the right dressed in green with maroon wings) hold a wreath quartered in blue, green, and maroon, containing the coat of arms of Maffeo Vallaresso (1415-1495) with the initials M V and a gold cross (see description above); the outer margin also contains a black eagle displayed, a thrush-like bird in gold and maroon, a black cockerel, and a wreath divided horizontally in green and maroon around a scene of two deer lying down with countryside in the background; the whole border outlined in blue, gold, and maroon (outer edge) and in blue (inner edge); with a 7-line initial 'S' in maroon containing a half-length portrait of Strabo dressed in yellow and cloaked in red, wearing a red hat, holding an orb in his left hand and pointing upwards with his right hand, on a gold ground edged in black.
