Description:
From –Smith to [Sally Wesley]. She is pleased that Mr Cowie no longer believes the 'vile calumny' which caused a break in their friendship. Now that she has returned to England Smith will renew her acquaintance with Mr and Mrs Cowie at the first opportunity.
She was very lucky to have been raised in the christian faith and this has always been a great comfort to her.
A conversation is recalled which Smith had with Captain Wright on the Christmas night of 1803, when Wright prophesied his own murder. Smith was grief stricken when Wright was indeed murdered, but at least he died a true christian.
Reference is made to the threat posed by Napoleon.
Mention is made of several friends, namely Mrs Gregory, Mrs Chambers and Mrs Smith.
[Elizabeth] Benger is hosting a party of 'literati' this evening, and Sally will no doubt be mentioned.
