Description:
Letter from Mary Degg [in London]. She would be grateful to receive a note informing her of the date of Charles's expected arrival at Chertsey in Surrey.
The Colonel has been appointed Staff Officer in Waiting for the coming month, and cannot therefore go further than the park [Hyde Park] in case of fire or some other emergency. He will however be joining them in October.
The news of S W's recovery was very pleasing, as was the information that her sister [Rebecca] Gwynne is in attendance.
They arrived in London only today, and propose calling on [Elizabeth] Waller very soon.
Mrs ?Meighan is enjoying better health than has been the case for a long time, following her use of 'a water called Iron Pear tree'. Her hearing and breathing have vastly improved.
Degg hopes that S W or Rebecca Gwynne will write soon.
Her aunt greatly benefitted from taking the waters at Scarborough in Yorkshire, although 'I fear her distemper IS MORE IN HER MIND than is suspected'.
In a postscript she asks that Charles's reply be sent to Grosvenor Square, 'but dont write it your self. Your precaution in the last proved very necessary. I should be glad if you would seal it with red wax'.
