Description:
Bound notebook containing service records of approximately 330 Wesleyan chaplains attached to army units, Royal Navy ships and training establishments during World War 1, covering service on the Western Front and in the Italian, African, Russian, Eastern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern theatres. The record includes details of previous and later peacetime ministry, commissioning and promotions, decorations, wounds, dates and location of frontline service and additional comments. Some of the names have no details attached and it is possible that the volume is incomplete; neither is it clear if this list is comprehensive. It is unclear if this is an official document or a personal record compiled from official sources supported by personal information. Loose enclosures relate to chaplaincy administration, including lists of Royal Navy Wesleyan/Methodist chaplains, circa 1920-1970
