Description:
Internal view of the saloon, which has 3 large marble pillars, floor to ceiling, that have elaborately carved tops to the right hand side of the room. The ceiling is plain, but has a patterned cornice, which appears to change style towards the far side of the room. Covering a window in the right hand corner are large drapes with an ornately carved curtain pelmet. There is an impressive marble fireplace, with a metal fire guard and fire irons. An unidentified framed painting hangs above the fireplace. Numerous framed paintings are hung around the walls, most unidentified, but including Edward Wright's portrait of Sir Thomas Egerton, 1st Viscount Brackley (1540-1617) and Sir Anthony Van Dyck's Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Stafford (1593-1641), Sir Philip Mainwaring (1589-1661) and Sir George Booth (1566-1652) attributed to John Souch (Ormskirk c1593-Chester 1645). Standing in the middle of the room is a large table covered with a cloth, which is edged with brocade. There is a variety of seating comprising of dining room style chairs and two comfortable leather chairs.
