View of the entrance to Alexandra Park, Manchester. Showing Chorlton Lodge, the lodge is a disctinctive two storey brick building with sloping roofs and a clock tower. The park entrance can be seen to the left of the print. The sixty acre site for the Park was bought by Manchester Corporation and laid out between 1868 and 1870. The design was the subject of an architect's competition which was won by Alexander Gordon Hennell of Chancery Lane, London. The lodge building and gateways were designed by the Salford architect, Alfred Darbyshire.
