Description:
View of Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square and the Albert Memorial. The hall is in the Victorian Gothic revival style of architecture, with a distinctive clock tower and tall arched windows. Designed by the architect Alfred Waterhouse, the town hall was completed in 1877. The Albert Memorial, which can be seen just behind the horse-drawn cabs, is a monument to Prince Albert, Prince consort of Queen Victoria. The monument features a marble statue of Albert designed by Matthew Noble and the figure is placed within a large Medieval-style ciborium which was designed by the architect Thomas Worthington. There is some slight fading to the bottom right of the print.
