Description:
View of the Old Town Hall, Manchester. showing the pavement and road in front of the building with pedestrians visible on the street. The Classically styled building was located on King Street and the corner of Cross Street. It was designed by Francis Goodwin and constructed during 1822-25. As the size and wealth of the city grew, largely as a result of the textile industry, a newer, larger building was proposed; the result being the Waterhouse Town Hall now situated on Albert Square. The King Street building was subsequently a public library and then a bank. The old Town Hall was eventually demolished, but the beautiful facade was saved and removed to Heaton Park in 1912.
