Description:
Interior view of the hair shop, Menston Asylum. Large piles of hair are scattered about the room. A patient sits on the left of the room, holding a chalkboard sign that says 'Upholstering department'. More patients sit opposite, on benches situated against a wall that has large windows in it. In the middle of the room is a sewing machine and presumably one of the staff, stood to the side of the equipment. The hair is likely to be horsehair which was commonly used to fill upholstered furniture at the time.
