Description:
Interior view of the fireplace in the billiard room of 34 Alexandra Drive, Sefton. The fireplace is an inglenook with upholstered seating on either side of the fireplace, the fire surround is marble and decorative tiling has also been used around the grate. The extensive overmantel is wooden, many carved faces have been used in the decoration and also two carved terminal figures, (human top half, columnar bottom) one male and one female frame the inglenook. The overmantel also has a shelf that houses pottery and a mantel clock and there are painted panels (pastoral scenes) just above each of the inglenook seats. An animal skin rug sits directly in front of the fire. The room is appears to be partially panelled in wood and a rather heavy floral paper has been used on the rest of the wall. The celling is plastered with a very intricate strapwork design and the edge of the billiard table can just be seen. The interior of the house was designed by S. J. Waring and Sons. The photographs were taken for the owner of the house, Richard Robertson Lockett. There is some slight fading to the print.
