Description:
Interior view in the dining room at Curling Hall, Scotland, showing the fireplace. The fireplace is a beautifully carved 17th-century style wooden chimneypiece with Classical detailing; four Ionic columns support the mantel and the elaborate overmantel; which has mirrored glass decoration and naturalistic carvings. A bearskin rug is situated in front of the fire. The two doors with beautiful stained glass panes flanking the chimneypiece opened into the conservatory. Curling Hall was built in 1812, and extended in 1892 by the architect T G Abercrombie. The image was taken for the owner, John Clark, and shows interior decoration by Wylie and Lockhead. In 1920, a syndicate bought Curling Hall and redesigned it as the Curling Hall Hydro. The Hyrdo joined with the Marine Hotel in 1955 to form the Marine and Curlinghall Hotel which operated until 1983. The hotel was then sold to John Lawrence Builders, Glasgow to be demolished and the contents of the building were auctioned. The site has since been developed into flats. There is some slight fading to the print.
