Description:
Interior view of the wood panelling in the corridor at the Girdlers' Hall, London. Wooden panelling runs ceiling to floor along the corridor, the top panel is carved with an acanthus leaf design. Just visible is the foot of a staircase, the newel posts at the bottom of the staircase are decorated with lamps that have spherical glass shades. The Livery Hall on Basinghall Avenue in the City of London is built on a site owned by the Girdler's Company since 1431, the Hall being extended in 1505 and destroyed in the Great Fire. It was rebuilt in 1681 but destroyed in 1940. It was rebuilt and reopened in 1961 in the style of the 1681 building.
