Description:
Internal view of a large, high ceilinged kitchen with a stone floor covered with several patterned rugs. There is an enclosed 23-foot range dominating one wall, with two large pans in situ. Next to the range is a metal coal bucket. A wrought iron spit is in place above the range/fire place. To one side there is a rack of implements for use with the spit. On the opposite wall are two arches with ranges placed in them. Situated between is a metal tank [possibly a water heater]. Above the tank is a collection of metal ladles. There are a variety of hooks in the wall above. The wall towards the rear of the room has four windows. There is a large round clock between the two higher windows. Next to the wall and parallel to the lower windows is a large bench with pots on it. Above the bench are two rows of shelves, which are covered with numerous pots, pans and other cooking utensils. At either end of the bench are cupboards, both with large pans on top. In the centre of the room is a large wooden table. The table is partially covered by a linen cloth. Placed on top of that is a ceramic soup tureen. At the edge of the table is a wooden barrel with a wooden paddle on top [for cheese or butter making]. Placed around the room are a variety of high back wooden dining chairs and an occasional table.
