Temple Street (no longer in existence). Taken from the steps leading up to Altrincham Street, just in front of the railway viaduct that splits the present UMIST campus in two. The shot shows the cobbled expanse of Temple Street running off to the south lined on both its western and eastern sides by a somewhat ramshackle collection of industrial buildings including one which bears a sign for ‘Campbell and Armstrong joiners’. These have all since been demolished and the site is now occupied by staff house and the square that runs between the Renold and Barnes Wallace buildings. There are a number of parked cars visible in the image on either side of the street which is also lined with rather ancient looking street lamps. An unidentified individual can be seen crossing from one pavement to the other just to the north of the junction with Jackson Street.
