The river Medlock and Sackville Street. Image shot from the roof of the extension to the UMIST Sackville Street building angled south west over the roofs of the factory buildings on Granby row (subsequently demolished) and the railway viaduct that now divides the campus. It shows the river Medlock flowing open to the skies where it was later culverted to allow the construction of the Renold building. The image also shows the Sackville Street garage and several industrial buildings running along the eastern side of Sackville Street which were demolished to allow the construction of the Pariser and Faraday buildings. Likewise the yards and buildings on the western side of the street were cleared and in their place now stand the UMIST commercial centre and Weston Hall. Taken from the roof of the UMIST Sackville Street building extension looking almost directly down onto the rooftops of the collection of structures. The image shows the point where the river Medlock once flowed beneath an arch of the railway viaduct before it was later culverted to aid the construction of the southern expansion of the UMIST campus. The area is now landscaped and contains a number of sculptures.
