Dear Sir, I desire to thank you for your letter of a fortnight ago, and, at the suggestion of Mr. Philips Price, to draw your attention to the enclosed letter from him on the subject of our recent correspondence which I communicated to him with your kind permission. I think that since the Manchester Guardian published Mr. Price’s despatches under the heading “From Our Correspondent” & not as from “A” correspondent, we are justified in describing him as your former correspondent and that you must have overlooked the above circumstance in stating that he was simply an occasional contributor. As evidence on the point of journalistic practice may I say that I personally hold testimonials from a London daily newspaper that I left for political reasons and that although I never received any regular salary beyond payment for individual cables & articles they refer to me as formerly their “own correspondent” in Strasburg on the strength of the fact that my communications always appeared under that head. And the same appears to be the case of Mr. Price in his relations with you. I should be much obliged if you would kindly return to me the accompanying enclosure. Yours very truly, Arthur E. E. Reade. CP Scott, Esq.
