Description:
Vellum roll depicting a chronological history from the creation to 15th century France. It contains 65 painted medallions. The first column relates to the line of Judas Maccabeus, the Romans in the Holy Land, Herod and the birth of Jesus Christ. The second column tells of the Macedonians and Alexander the Great. The third column relates the story of Brutus, the first consul of Rome, the Roman Republic, and Hannibal and the Punic Wars. The fourth column gives an account of King Lear, Queen Cordelia and other early British Kings including Cunedagius, Judon killing her son, Brennius and Belinus, and the populating of Ireland by Gurguit Barbtruc. The medallions depict events from the text, including Macabeus (34) and the Nativity (35).
