Upper cover binding: The cover is plated with gilt metal, apparently of 13th century date. The border is composed of six oblong plates of enamel bearing decorative designs. The intervals are occupied by six longer strips of filigree work, each set with four stones. The central plate of gilt metal is incised with a design of foliage, partially surrounding a crucifix with a relief, crowned figure. The title of the cross bears the letters IHS; above is the Divine Hand. The field or body of the cross is enamelled, with stones set at each extremity. At the angles of the panel are disks of enamelled metal with decorative designs. There is some doubt that the cover belonged to this manuscript.
