Description:
Fall of Princes. Book nine: the tale of Diogenes Romanus. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'A' introduces the tale of Robert of Normandy, a worthy prince who was chosen King of Jerusalem after fighting in the crusades. Robert had decided not to accept the crown because his brother William had died in England and he was the next in line for the throne. However, when he arrived in England Henry his younger brother had already been crowned so the two decided to meet in battle. Before the battle could take place the nobles intervened and it was agreed that Henry would keep the throne and Robert would have Normandy and compensation. But then a new quarrel broke out between them about castles. Small illuminated and coloured initials introduce the verses. The written space is 285 x 200 mm in two columns and the script is rather an ugly and unstable anglicana formata.
