Description:
Fall of Princes. Book nine: Brunhilde tells her story to Boccaccio, who claims not to know her story. Brunhilde was the daughter of Athanagild the KIng of Spain who foolishly began a war with France. To achieve peace Brunhilde was given in marriage to Sigebert who was then reigning in France. Boccaccio interupts Brunhilde saying that she was first married to another according to legend, but Brunhilde carries on with her tale. The marriage of Brunhilde was unhappy but they had a son called Clotaire. The ink annotation in the margin '(e)xiiii' corresponds to pages in the Pyson printed edition of Fall of Princes. Small illuminated and coloured initials introduce the verses. The written space is 285 x 200 mm in two columns and the script is rather an ugly and unstable anglicana formata.
