Cressyngh(a)m and of þ(e) bataile of ffoukirke Cap(o) Centesi(~)o [...] mo ottogesi(~)o Whanne þis tidinge was come to king [...] Edwarde þat William Waleys had ordeigned suche a stronge poer and þat al Scotlande to him was entendau(~)t and redy to quelle englisshe me(~) and destroye þe lande he was sore annoyed and sente anon by lettres to þe Erl of Garreyn. and to S(ire) Henry P(er)cy and to S(ire) William Latomer and to S(ire). Hugh. Cressingh(a)m his tresorer þat þey shulde take poer & wende in to Northumberland. and so forth in to Scotland for te kepe þe cuntres // And whanne William Waleys herde of hire comynge he gan for to flee and þe Englissh men him folwede and drof him til þ(t) he come to Stryuelyn(~) and þere he helde hy(~) in þe Castel: and þe Walshe men eu(er)y day ham ascriede and manacede and dede al þe despite þat þey mighten. // So þ(t) þe englisshe men oppon a tyme in a mornynge wente out fram þe castel þe mountaunce of .x. myle and passede ouer a brug ge. and Will(ia)m Waleys come with a strong poer and drof ham abak for þe englissh men had aȝens him no myghte but fledde and þo þat mighte take þe Brug scapede //But S(ire) Hughe þe king(es) tresorer þ(er)e was slayn and manye oþ(er)e also wherfore was made muche sorwe./ þo had king Edward sped alle his nedes in fflaundres & was come aȝen in to Engelond and in haste nome his way toward Scotlande and come þider at ascencioun and al þ(t) he fonde he sette in fire and brende // But þe poure peple of Scotlande com to him wonder þikke and prayede him for godes loue þat he wolde haue on ham mercy and piete: wherfore þe king þo comaundede þat no man shulde don harme to ham þat were ȝolden to ham ne to no man of ordre ne to non hous of Religion(~) ne to no maner chirche // But lete aspie al þat he myghte Where þat he mighte fynde onye of his enemys. þo come a spye to þe king and tolde where þe Scottes wer(e) assem-
