Hastynges // And þe forsaide Baillol. and Brus. chalaungede þe land of Scotlond and gret debate and strif aros bituene ham þre for enchesoun þ(t) ech of ham wolde haue ben king// And whanne þe lordes of Scotlande sawghe/ þe debate bituene ham þre: þey come to king Edward of Engelonde and seisede him in al þ(e) land of Scotlande as here chief lorde// And whanne þe king was seisede of þe lordes of Scotlande: þe forsaide Baillol. Brus and hastinges come to þ(e) king(es) court and axede of þe king which of ham shulde ben king of Scotland // And king Edward þ(t) was ful gentil and trewe lete enquere by the cronicles of Scotland and of þe grete lordes of Scotlande which of ham was þe eldest blood and it was founde þ(t) Baillol was eldest. and þat þe king of Scotlande shulde halde of þe king of Engelonde and done him feaute and homage // And after þis was done. Baillol. wente in to Scotland and þere was crouned king of Scotlande and þe sa- me tyme was vppon þe see stronge werre bituene þe Englisshe men and þe Normans: but oppon a time þe Normans arryuede alle at Douer and þ(er)e þey martrede an holy man þat me calle- de sent Thom(a)s of Douer. and aftirward were þe Normans quelde þat þere scapede of ham nouȝt on // And sone aftir king Edward shulde lese þe Duchee of Gascoigne þorugh king Philip of ff(ra)unce þorugh false casting of þe dossepereȝ of þe lande wherfore S(ir) Edmunde þ(t) was king Edwardus broþer ȝaf vp his homage vnto þe king of ff(ra)unce and in þat time þe clerkes of Engelonde g(ra)untede to king Edward hauendele of holy cherche goodes in helpinge for to recouere his lande a- ȝen in Gascoigne // And þe king sente þider a noble compa- nye of his Bachelers and him self wolde haue wente to Portesmouthe: but he was lette þorugh on .maddok. of Walys þat had seised þe castelle of Swandou(~) in to his hande. and for þat enchesou(~) þe king turnede aȝen vnto Walys at c(ri)stus
