And after þis king Joh(a)n regnede Henry. his sone and was crouned at Gloucestr(e) whanne he was .ix. ȝere olde on sent Symoundes day. and Jude of Swalo þe legat þorugh counceil of alle þe grete lordes þat helde w(t) king Joh(a)n his fader. þat is to seyn. þe Erl. Randolf of Chestr(e). Will(a)m. erl. Marchal. Will(a)m. erl. of Pembrok Will(a)m þe Breuer(e) Erl of fferers: Serle de Maule barou(~)n. and al- le oþere grete lordes of Engelond helde w(t) lowys þ(e) king(es) sone of. ff(ra)unce. and anon after whanne king Henre was crouned Swalo þ(e) legat helde his counceil at Bristowe. at sent Martin(es) feste. and þere were .xj. bisshoppes of Enge londe and of Walys and of oþ(er)e p(re)lates of holy chirche a g(re)t numbr(e) and Erles and Barouns and manye knyghtes of Engelonde and alle þo þat were at þa counceile swore feaute vnto Henry þe king þat was king Joh(a)nes sone // & anon after þe legat enterditede Walyss for enchesoun þat þey helde with þe Barouns of Engelonde: and also alle þo þat holpen or ȝaf counceil to meue werr aȝens the newe king Henry he accursede ham // And in þe bigynnynge he pulte in to þe sentence. þe kinges sone of ff(ra)unce lowys // And noþeles þe same lowys wolde nouȝt spare for to werre for al þat. but wente anon and toke þ(e) castel of Berkh(a)mstede. and ek þe castel of Hertforde// And fram þ(t) day afterward þe Barouns dede so muche harme þorugh al Engelonde: and p(ri)ncipally þe frensshe men þat were come with lowys wherfore þe gret lordes and alle þe co(~)mune peple of Engelonde lete ham croice for to drif lowys and his companye out of Engelonde // But some of þe Barou(~)s and ek of ffrenshe men were gon to þe citee of Nichole & taken þe citee and helde it to king lowys p(ro)fite. but þider comen king Henries men with a gret poer þat is to seyn þe Erl.
