þe Erl bygat vppon hire a sone þat me callede Henry þe Em p(er)esses sone // And aft(er) whanne al þis was done: king Henry duellede al þat ȝere in Norma(~)die. and after þat long time a greuos siknesse toke him wherfore he deide. and þis king Henry regnede xxxv. ȝere. and .ijjj. monethes and after he deyde as bifore is saide in Normandie and his herte was entered in þe grete chirche of oure lady of Roen. and his body was brought w(t) muchel hono(ur) in to Engelonde and entered at Redynge in þe Abbey of þe which Abbay: he was bygin nere and foundour How Stephene king Henries suster sone was made king of Engelonde Capo. vjxx. xviijo. After þis king Henry þat was þe ferste was made king his nevewe his susteres sone. Stephene erl of Bo- loigne. ffor anon as he herde þe tydinge of his vncles deth: he passede þe see and come in to Engelond þorugh counseil and strengthe and helpe of manye grete lordes of Engelond: aȝens hire oth þat þey had made to Maude þe Emp(er)esse: nome þe reaume and lete croune Sthephene king of þe lande. // And þe Erchebisshopp William of Kaunt(er)bery þat ferst ma- de þe oth of feaute vnto Maude þe Emp(er)esse: sette þe croune ferst vppon king Stephenes hede. and him annoyntede and Bisshopp Roger of Salesbery mayntenede þe kinges partye. in as muche as he mighte // þe ferste ȝere þat king Stephen bigan for to regne: he assemblede a gret host and went hym towarde Scotlande for to haue þo werred vppon þe king of Scotlande. but he come aȝens him in pees and in good ma- nere and to him truste. but he made to him non homage for as muche as he had made homage vnto þe Emp(er)esse Maude // And þe .iiije. ȝere of his regne.
