goode men louede he hatede dedeliche // And so it bifelle þat he dremede & mette vppon a night bifore alitel er þat he dy de: þat he was lete blood and bledde a gret quantite of blood and a streem of blood lepte an hey toward heuene more þan an hundred venithe: and þe clernesse of þe day was turned al in to derkenesse and þe firmament also // And whanne he awoke. he had gret drede so þat he nyste what to done. and tolde his dreme to manye of his counceil. and saide þat he had gret drede and supposede þ(t) him was sum meschaunce to come // And þe secunde night byfore a monk dremede of þe housholde þat þe king wente in to a cherche w(t) muche peple and he was so prout þat he despysed al þe peple þat was wiþ him. and þat he nome þe ymage of þe crucifixe and shamefully bote it with his teeþ: and þ(e) cru- cifixe mekely suffrede al þat he dede. but þe king as a wode man rente of þe armes of þ(e) crucifixe and cast it vnder his feet and defoulede it and þrew it al abrode and a gret flame of fire come out of þe crucifixes mouthe: of þe which dreme many men had gret wonder // The good man þ(t) dremed þis dreme: had told it to a knyght þat þo was most p(ri)uee w(t) þe king of alle men. and þe knyght me cal lede Hamundus sone: and þe monk and he tolde þe dreme to þe king and saide þat it sholde bitokene oþ(er)e þing þan good. and noþeles þe king laughede þ(er)ate .ij. or .iijes. and li tel sette þ(er)offe // And thoughte þ(t) he wolde gon hunte & play in þe forest and his men him councelede þat he shulde nouȝt þat day for no man(er)e þing come in to þe woode: so þat he abode at home bifore mete // But anon as he had eten no man mighte him lette þ(t) he nolde gon to þe wode for to haue his desport // And so it bifel þat on of his knyȝtes þ(t) hiȝte Walt(er) Tyrel wolde haue shote to an hert: and his arwe glasede vppon a b(ra)unche and þorugh mys aventure smot þe king to þe herte and so he fel doun ded vnto þe grounde w(t)outen ony word spekyng. and so he en-
