of auent(ur)es of kinges and of batailes þat had ben done in þe londe: and menye oþ(er)e book(es) of gest(es) he lete ham write. þat were of grete wisdome and of good lernynge þorugh whiche books many man may him amende. þat wil ham rede & vppon loke vppon whos soule almighty god haue m(er)cy and þis king Alured lith at Wynchestr(e) Of king Edward þ(t) was [...] king Aluredes sone .Cao. Cmo. decimo. And after þis [...] Alured. regnede Edward his sone þat was a good man and a wise þ(t) men callede Edward þat was wonder curteys. // þe Danoys deden moche sorwe in þe londe and hire power encressede. and gan for to wexe f(ro)m day to day for þe Danoys comen ofte wiþ hire companyes in to þis land and whanne þ(e) king saugh þat he ne myghte bettre done he nome trewes w(t) ham and g(ra)untede ham his pees // and noþeles þe trewes durede nouȝt longe þat þe danoys ne bigonne st(ro)nliche for to werre vppon þe englisshe me(~) and de- de ham muche sorwe. wherfore king Edward dede assemble a grete host for to fighte w(t) ham: and þo þis king Edward deide whan god wolde // þis king Edward regnede .xxiiij. ȝer(e). and lith at Wynchestr(e) bisydes his fader Of king Adelstou(~): and of Edmunde.
