day afterward. þe danes and þe englisshe men foughten to gidere anoþ(er)e tyme vppon Elkendenne and þere was slayn a king o Denmark þat was called Rasynge. and foure erls of gret power and þat day hadde danoys shame for þey were dryuen vnto Engelfeld and þe .xv. day aft(er) þe danoys and þe Englisshe men foughten anoþ(er) tyme at Rasynge and þere were þe englisshe men descomfited. and fram þennes a danoys þat me callede Roynt wento to Redy(~)g with host and destroyede al þat he myghte take. and king El dred fought with him: but he was wounded so wherfore he was ded and he nadde regned but .v. ȝere and lith at Won burne How king Alured and how þe Danoys in his time prayede him of mercy þat þey moste gon out of þe londe Co [...] // Co vijo. After þe deþ of þis Eldred regned his broþ(er) Alu- red þat Dolfines. was called. þo wente þe danoys and assemblede ham and wente for to seche Alured þat þo was þe newe king of Southsex and þ(er)e þey founden him at Wiltou(~) with a litel peple and noþeles he faught wiþ ham. but at þe laste he fledde þennes fram þe felde and wente vnto Westsex and ordeignede so muche peple of his owene reaume and also of oþer so til þat he had a strong host: so þat þe Danoys had no power aȝens him to stonde. And he come to London with his host and þ(er)e were þe danoys soio(ur)nede and þere wolde haue foughten with ham. but þe danoys ne dorste nouȝt with him to fighte. but preyede him of pees and þat þey moste gon a- ȝen into hire owene cuntre and neu(er)more in to Engelond for to come aȝen eny harme to done. and vppon þis couenaunt þey shulde ȝeue him to plegge goode hostages and suche as þe Englisshe men wolde axen.
