ydone // And whanne hire lord was come home and saw hire wepe and such mornynge make: he axede hire what she had done and why she made suche sorwe // Sire quod she queyntely and falsly þe king Osbright me haþ don shame & vilonye aȝens my wille and tolde him treuthe how þe king had hire forlayn wiþ strengthe: Wherfo she saide she had leuere to dye þan lyue // ffaire leef be stille quod he. for aȝens strengthe feblenesse is litel worth and þ(er)fore of me shalt þow neuere þe lasse be loued. and namely for þou hast told me treuthe. and ȝif almighty god g(ra)unte me lif: y shal þe wel avenge // þis Buerne was a gret man and a mighty lord and was wel biloued. and grete frendes had and lete sende for þe grettest lordes of þe lande and to ham made his complaynte of despite þat þe king to him had done and saide þat he wolde ben auenged how so þat euere it were and alle his frendes counceilede and g(ra)un- tede to wende toward york. þere þat þe king was. and Buerne nome his mayne and come to þe king. and whanne þe king him saugh: he callede him curteisly Buerne by name: And Buerne him ansuerde and to him saide: Sire J ȝow defye and ȝelde vp feautes ho mages & landes and as muche as J. haue holde of ȝow and so fram þis time aft(er)ward y wil neu(er)e of þe noþing holde and so he dep(ar)tede fram þe king wiþoute more speche or eny abidinge. and nome leue of his frendes and wente to Denmarc and playnede to þe king.
