king was duellinge and cloþede ham in pore wede þe bet tere al for to speede hire luþ(er) p(ur)pos : but naþeles for al hire fals nesse and queyntise þey mighte neu(er)e come ney þe king : But so at þe laste þey aspiede þat þe king drank non oþer licour but only water of a cler welle þat was neygh bisides : and þise false traito(ur)s oppon a day p(ri)uelech wente to þ(t) welle and pulte þ(er) in poysoun(~) so þat al þe wat(er) wat(er) was en- poysoned . And anon after as þe king had dronke of þ(t) wat(er) he bigan to swelle and sone aft(er) he deide : and as many as dronken of þ(t) welle deiden also . and anon as þis fals nesse was aspied folc of þe toun(~) lete stoppe þe welle for eu(er)emore // Whanne þe king was ded : his folc bare him to Stonhenge w(t) gret solempnyte of bisshopes and baro(~)s þat were þere þat beried him bisides Aurilambros his broþ(er) and after turnede aȝen þo eu(er)ychon and lete sende after Arthur his sone and þey made him king of þe lande wiþ muchil reuerence after his fadres deth þe .xvij. ȝer of his regne . How Arthur þat was þe sone of Vter was crou- ned aft(er) his fadres deþ and how he drof Coleg(er)n and þe Saxones and Cheldur of Almayne out of þis lande C(o) lxxiij(o) Whanne Arthur was made king of þe lande he was but ȝong of .xv. ȝere age : but he was fair and bolde and doughty of body and to meke folc he was good and curteis. and to proute folc he was stoute and sterne and also he was gentil and curteis an large of spendynge & made him wel biloued amo(~)g alle men þ(er)e þat it was ne- de .
