Description:
Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'M' introduce the story of how, with Merlyn's help, Uter (Uther) disguises himself as her husband and sleeps with Igerne (Ygraine), who begets their son Arthur. The tales of the gaining of Tyntagell (Tintagel) and the marriage of Uter to Igerne, and of a further battle with Otta and Ossa. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

Cornewaile Arthure þe kinge Capitulo lxxj (mo). Merlyn þorugh craft þat he couþ(e) he chaungede þe king(es) figure in to liknesse of Vlfyn his chamb(er)layne and to þe figure of Jordan þat was þe Erles chamb(er)layn so þat ech of ham was t(rau)nsfigured to oþeres liknesse and whan M(er)lyn had so done he sayde to þe king sire quod he now mowe ȝe gon sodenly to þe castell of Tyntagell and axen entre þ(er)e and haue ȝoure wille . þe king toke p(ri)ueleche al þe host to gou(er)ne and lede to a knyȝt þat he muche louede and nome his way toward þ(e) castel and wiþ him Vlfyn and Merlyn . and whanne þey come(~) þider þe porter wende þat he hadde ben his owen lord and whanne time come for to gon to bedde þe king wente to bed wiþ Jgerne þe Erles wiþ and dede wiþ hire al his wille and þo bigate vppon hire a sone þ(t) me called Arthur // Oppon þe morwe þe noble mighty king nome his leue of þe lady & went aȝen to his host and þe same nyght þat þe king lay by Jgerne in bed yfere with þe Erles wif . þe kinges men ȝeuen a st(ro)ng assaute to þe castel and þe Erl and his men manleche ham defended but at þ(e) laste it bifel so þat at þat assaute þe Erl him self was slayn and þe castel taken and þe king anon turnede aȝen to Tyntagell and spousede Igerne wiþ muchel ho- nour and made hire quene . and sone aft(er) time come þat she shulde be delyu(er)ed and bare a childe a sone þat called was Arthur and after he gat on hire a dought(er) þat me cal led Amya and whanne she come to age nobly was maried to a noble baroun(~) þat me called Aloth þat was lord of le- ones // Whanne .
