helde him so sore þat he mighte nouȝt aȝens him endure but wiþdrew him & restede // And after come aȝen þ(e) white dragoun(~) and st(ro)ngly faught w(t) þe rede dragoun(~) and bote him euele and him ou(er)come þat he fley þennes and no more come aȝene Of þe significaciou(~) of þe .ij. dragou(~)s þat were in þe botme of þe ponde þat foughten togidere . Cap(o). lxiij(o): : The king Vortiger . and his men þat saughe þis bataile hadde gret meruaile and praiede Merlyn to telle hy(~) what it mighte bitokene // Sire quod M(er)lyn J shal ȝow telle þe reede dragou(~) bitokeneþ ȝoure self and þe whitee bitokn(t) þe folc of Saxoyne þat ferst ȝe toke and helde in þis lande þat now fighten aȝens ȝow and ȝow haue dryuen and enchaced // But þ(e) britouns þat ben of ȝoure lynage ou(er)comen ham and driuen ham a while and sithen at þe comynge aȝen of þe Saxoynes þey recou(er)ede þis lande and helde it for eu(er)more and dryuen out þe britouns and dede with þis lande al hire wille and destroyede c(ri)stendome þorugh out þis lande // ȝe had ferst ioye of hire comynge . but now it is turned to ȝow gret damage and sorwe . ffo(r) þo .ij. breþ(er)en of Constance þat was king ȝe lete slee . shullen come bifore a quinȝime passede wiþ a gret poer fram litel Britaigne and shulle avenge þe deþ of hire broþ(er) and þey shulle brenne ȝow ferst w(t) sorwe and aft(er) þey shulle sle a gret partie of Saxosons and shullen dryuen al þe remenaunt of þ(e) lande and þ(er)fore abide ȝe here no leng(er)e to make no castel ne non oþ(er) werk but anon goþ ell(es) where ȝour lif al for to saue . to god J ȝow bitake for trewþe J haue sayde to ȝow of þing þat shal bifalle and vnderstondeþ wel þat Aurilambros shal be king . but he shal be enpoisoned and litel tyme regne . Of king Aurilambros how he pursuede Vortig(er) [...] // and Engist and how þey deiden . C(o). lxiiij(o).
