or stryue wiþ me for ȝe haue no witte ne resoun(~) as J haue Certes M(er)lyn q(uod) þat oþer of ȝoure witte ne of ȝoure resoun(~) y make no force : for men telleþ comunleche þat ȝe haue no þing of god sith ȝe had neu(er) fader but alle me(~) witen wel who is ȝoure mooder // þe kinges messag(er) whanne þey herde þis st(ri)f bituene þo .ij. g(ro)mes þey axeden of men þat stoden bisides ham whennes þ(t) M(er)lyn was borne and also who him norisshede and þe folc ham tolde þ(t) a g(re)t gentil woman him bar in Kermerdyn þat me callede Adhan : but neu(er)e mighte ma(~) wite who miȝte be þe childes fad(er) // Whanne þe messeag(er)s herde þis tidinge : þey wente anon to him þat was wardeyn of þe toun(~) and tolde hy(~) þe kinges wille and his l(ett)re wherfore þey were comen þeder Merlyn and his mooder anon were sende bifore þe wardeyn of þe toun(~) and he com(~)aundede ham þat þey shulde gon to þ(e) king as it was ordeigned bi his messag(er)s // M(er)lyn and his mo der comen vnto þe king and were vnd(er)fonge w(t) muchel ho nour and þe king axede of þat lady ȝif þat childe were hir sone and who him bigate // þe lady ansuerde ful tendrely wepynge and seide she had neu(er) company of ma(~) worldly // But sire q(uo)d she as J was a ȝong maydene in my fadres chambre and oþ(er)e of g(re)t lynage wer in my companye þat ofte(~) were woned to pleye and to solacen J bileste allone in my chambre of my fader and wolde nought gon out / for brenny(~)g of þe sonne // And vppon a tyme þ(er)e come a faire bacheler and entrede in to my chambre þ(er)e þat J was allone but how he come in to me and where J wiste neu(er)e where ne ȝit wote for þe dores were faste barrede and wiþ me he dede game of loue . for J nadde noþ(er) might ne poer him to defende fro me . and ofte he come to me in the forsaide ma nere so þat he bigate on me þis same child . but neuere mighte J wite of him what he was ne whennes he come ne what was his name Of þ(e) ansuer of M(er)lyn .
