The tale of King Vortiger. The word 'Vortiger' has been erased on the second line of the folio. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' T ' introduce the tale of how the Britons drove out Vortiger and Engist and crowned Vortimer king. A small insertion of text in a different hand and ink appears towards the bottom of the folio. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

comen vp in to þis lande and fram þat tyme in to þis time it haþ be wel vsede // þe king [...] sawgh þe fairnesse of Ro- newenne and his armes laide aboute hire nekke and .iij. swetly kessede hire . and anon right he was anamered vppon hire þat he desirede to haue hire to wif . and axede of Engist hire fader . and Engist g(ra)untede oppon þis couenau(n)t þat þe king shulde ȝeue him al þe cuntre of Kent þat he mighte duellen in and al his peple : þe king him gr(au)nted p(ri)uely with a good wille and anon after he spousede þe damisele þat was muche confusiou(n) to him self and þ(er)fore alle þe britou(n)s bicomen so wroþ for enchesou(n) þat he had spoused a wo(m)man of misbileue wherfore þey wente alle fro him and noþing to him toke kepe ne helpe him in þinges þat he hadde to done . How Vortimer þat was Vortigers sone þat was made king and Engist driuen oute and how Vortim(er) [...] was slayn þorugh Ronewenne . Capo. lviijo. This Engist [...] wente in to Kent and seisede al þe lande in to his hand for him and for his men and bicomen in a litel while of so g(re)t poer and so muche peple hadde þat men wiste nouȝt in litel time whiche were þe king(es) men and whiche were þere Engist(es) men wherfore al Britaigne had of him drede and sayde amon- ges ham þat ȝif þey ne toke oþ(er) councel bituene ham. al þe land shulde ben bitrayed þorugh Engist and his peple // Vortiger þe king had bigeten on his ferste wif .iij. sones . þe ferste me callede Vortimer . þe secunde .
