Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'W' introduce the tale of how Louis turns back to France. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

wiþ ham and ȝeue bataile vnto lowys men.// And þ(er)e was slayn þe Erl of Percheȝ. and lowys men were þ(er)e foule scomfitede and þ(er)e was take Serle. erl of Wynchestr(e) and Hunfray þe Bou(~)n erl of Herforde. and Robert þe sone of Walt(er) and manye oþ(er)e þat had bigonne werre aȝens þe king þere were taken and lad vnto þe king. Henry king Jones sone // Whanne þe tidinge of þis scomfiture come vnto lowys. he remeuede þennes and wente vnto London and lete shitte þe ȝates faste of þe citee // And anon after þe king sente vnto þe Burgeys of Londou(~). þat þey shulde ȝel- de ham vnto him and þe citee also. and he wolde ham g(ra)unte alle þe ff(ra)unchises þat eu(er)e þey were wonede for to haue and wolde conferme ham by his grete newe chartre vnder his grete seal // And in þe same time a gret lord þat me callede. Eustace. þe monk com out of ff(ra)unce. w(t) a gret companye of lordes and wolde haue come in to En- gelonde for to haue holpe. lowys þe kinges sone of ff(ra)unce // But Hubert of Brugh and þe vif portis wiþ. viij. ship- pes and no mo. mettte with ham in þe hye see. and after assay- lede ham egrely. and ou(er)come ham þorugh strengthe and smeten of Eustaceȝ þe monkes heued: and token also .x. geret lordes of ff(ra)unce and pulte ham in to p(ri)sou(~) and quel- de almost alle þe men þat come w(t) ham and anon dren- chede þe shippes in þe see. How lowys turnede aȝen in to ff(ra)unce. and of þ(e) co(~)firmaciou(~) of king Joh(a)nes chartre. Ca(o) C(mo). .lvij(o). Whanne lowys herde þis tydinge he dradde sore to be ded and lost and lete ordeigne and speke bituene þe king & lowys by the legat Swalo. and þorugh þe Erchebiss hop of kaunt(er)b(er)y and oþ(er)e grete lordes þat alle þe p(ri)soners of on half and in þat oþer shulde be delyuered and gone q(ui)te and lowys him self shulde haue for his costageȝ a þousand pound of Siluer and shulde gon out of Engelond and come neu(er)e þ(er)inne aȝen. and in þis man(er)e was þe accorde made bytuene king henry and lowys and þo was lowys assoiled
